Dating Notes
David as earl of Huntingdon × death of Robert de Quincy, also × royal confirmation (RRS ii, no. 396), which Barrow dates to 20 Aug., 1196× 1203, perhaps 1197. This however is also witnessed by Robert de Quincy, so perhaps it should also be dated to × 1200. Robert de Quincy also witnesses a charter dating to probably 20 August 1200. RRS ii, no. 428. It should be noted that the Oxford DNB states that Robert de Quincy died in 1197, apparently erroneously. Robert de Quincy is cited as a witness to this charter and the following two charter of Saer de Quincy, his son. Robert was away on the First Crusade in 1190, 1191 and 1192, and fought for Richard I in Normany in 1194 and 1196. Grant Simpson writes that Robert was dead by Michaelmas, 1197, although his source is unclear.
