Of the witnesses mentioned, Sir William of Moray does not appear to have been knighted until about 1284. Master Alpin, Official of St Andrews, was probably the same as the Master Alpin who was Treasurer of Scotland in 1293, and if son would presumably have held the minor office of Official before he became Treasurer. This would make the two limiting dates 1284-1293. Reginald de Warrenne was dead by 1247, and Sir Nicholas of Hay died between 31 May and 3 September 1305 (see <em>Moncreiffes</em>, ii, p. 640).
