This single-sided seal shows a half-length figure of the Virgin with *nimbus*, seated under a canopy and suckling the Child. The Child wears a crown and *nimbus* and sits on the Virgin’s left knee, flanked by angels descending from above and waving *thuribles*. Under a trefoiled arch, inscribed S ABBIS DE KELHO (“Seal of the abbot of Kelso”), below, is an abbot with mitre kneeling to *sinister* in front of an altar on which is a chalice; behind are two stars of eight points, and another above.
