Seal-Matrix: Edgar, king of Scots (great seal) (2)

Owner
Edgar, king of Scots (d.1107)
Matrix Shape
round
Image description (obverse)
Single-sided seal of Edgar, which like the first depicts the king seated on a throne which has crossed legs and claw feet. He is wearing a crown with three points, a tunic, and a cloak fastened at the right should with a brooch. He holds a sceptre with a fleur-de-lys top in his right hand, and a sheathed sword in his left; he holds both in the middle, and their bases rest on his thighs. This matrix is less finely worked than that of the first great seal; the king’s position is slightly different, and the size and spacing of the legend’s letters is markedly different.
