Walter Lindsay (II) (d.c.1165)

Biography
witnessed charters at end of David’s reign (Charters of David I, nos. 171, 172, 194, 200); witnessed charters of Malcolm IV; had an uncle named Walter; had a son named William, who must be William Lindsay (II) [evidence: 3/350/2] ; grantor: 3/350/1 and 3/350/2; gave the church of Earlson (BWK) to Kelso Abbey and land in Kedslie, Melrose parish (ROX) to Dryburgh Abbey ; Either Walter or his son William (perhaps more likely the former, but no clear evidence) gave land on Packmans Burn (‘Fachope’) near the Leader to Melrose Abbey (3/350/3); All of these charters point to ownership of lands on either side of the Leader, in Earlston and Melrose parishes.; died ca. 1165, as his son William was grantor of charter to Durham shortly after dispute resolution, 1165×67 (4/32/1)
