witnessed charters at end of David’s reign (Charters of David I, nos. 171, 172, 194, 200) witnessed charters of Malcolm IV had an uncle named Walter had a son named William, who must be William Lindsay (II) [evidence: 3/350/2] grantor: 3/350/1 and 3/350/2 gave the church of Earlson (BWK) to Kelso Abbey and land in Kedslie, Melrose parish (ROX) to Dryburgh Abbey Either Walter or his son William (perhaps more likely the former, but no clear evidence) gave land on Packmans Burn (‘Fachope’) near the Leader to Melrose Abbey (3/350/3) All of these charters point to ownership of lands on either side of the Leader, in Earlston and Melrose parishes. died ca. 1165, as his son William was grantor of charter to Durham shortly after dispute resolution, 1165×67 (4/32/1)
