Pandulf Masca, bishop-elect of Norwich (d.1226)

Biography
Born in Rome, was a clerk at the papal court of Innocent III and one of the subdeacons there. He resigned his legation in July 1221 at Westminster, and returned to Rome where he was consecrated by Pope Honorius III as bishop of Norwich on 29 May 1222. Pandulph remained in Rome and after he died there on 16 September 1226, his body was returned to burial at Norwich Cathedral. E. Burton, 'Pandulph', The Catholic Encyclopedia (1911), xi, [http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11441a.htm] Ferguson, Medieval Papal Reps., 81-84: Pandulf, bishop-elect of Norwich and papal chamberlain, was appointed as legate to England in September 1218. He had previously been involved in English affairs during the reign of King John. He reached London by 3 December 1218 and had planned to meet with Robert of St German, a clerk of the king of Scots, probably in relation to the Anglo-Scottish treaties of 1209 and 1212. Pandulf met with Alexander II on 2 August 1219 at Norham and a formal settlement was reached on 15 July 1220 when Henry III and Alexander met in Pandulf's presence at York. He seems to have played some role in the marriage between Alexander and Henry's sister, Joan, in June 1221.
