Alexander Scrymgeour (d.1306)

Biography
Son of Colin, son of Carun; executed at Newcastle in August 1306 (CDS, ii, no. 1811). The surname derives from Old French scremisseur, a fencing-master, an occupation which may have been the key to the family's rise to prominence during the Wars of Independence. The Scrymgeour family were constables of Dundee Castle and later became Earls of Dundee.
