Hervey of Dundee (d.1281)

Biography
Watt and Murray, Fasti, 79: Hervey, or Harvey, was a canon of St Andrews when he was elected bishop of Caithness after the resignation of Richard in March 1279, but he died at the papal curia before his confirmation and consecration, probably just before 13 April 1282. Watt, Graduates, 162: Hervey was a canon of St Andrews when he appears as a proctor for the prior in a dispute in August 1220 at Orvieto. As bishop-elect of Caithness, he visited Bologna in 1281, and was called Hervey, son of Gregory. He was probably the son of Sir Gregory Long, a burgess of Dundee (d. after 1268) and presumably brother of Radulf of Dundee (d. 1306×12). He probably died before 27 May 1281, but certainly before 13 April 1282 when the provision was made for his successor as bishop.
