Hugh of Benholm, bishop of Aberdeen (d.1282)

Biography
Watt and Murray, Fasti, 2: Hugh de Benham (Bennum/Benholm) was chancellor of Aberdeen, occurring on 11 November 1266, when he was elected as bishop of the see and was consecrated at the papal curia at Orvieto between 27 March and 23 July 1272. He occurs in that office in December 1281 and died in 1282, sometime before 17 June. Watt, Graduates, 39-40: Hugh was perhaps the son of Hugh de Benne/Bennef, who held lands in Benholm (KCD). It was said he also had a sister, Christina, wife of Walter of Lundin, who received the family's lands in the 1230s. A Thomas de Benham (Bennum), who appears was probably a younger brother or son. Hugh was a canon of Aberdeen by 1247×57 before he was made chancellor.
