Margaret, queen of Scots (d.1093)

Biography
Margaret was the eldest child of Edward Ætheling (d. 1057), son of Edmund Ironside (d. 1016), and his wife, Agatha, a kinswoman of Emperor Heinrich II (d. 1024). Her brother was Edgar Ætheling and she had a sister, Christina. The family fled to the Scottish court in 1068 and in either 1069 or 1070, Margaret was married to Malcolm III, king of Scots, at Dunfermline. With Malcolm she had the following children: Edward (d. 1093), Edmund, Edgar (d. 1107), Alexander (d. 1124), David (d. 1153), Matilda (d. 1118), who married Henry I of England. Margaret converted Holy Trinity Church of Dunfermline into a Benedictine Priory, which was later converted to an abbey by her son, David. She died at Edinburgh Castle on 16 November 1093, three days after her husband, Malcolm, and eldest son, Edward, had been killed near Alnwick. She was buried at the high altar in Dunfermline Priory. In 1250 she was canonised by the papacy. Her body and that of Malcolm were transferred by Philip II of Spain to a chapel in the Escorial at Madrid during the reformation. http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/18044/
