For his career, see also Biog. Ox. III 2227, but he was not the rector of Yardley Hastings, for he witnesses, as can., the inst. of a man of the same name (Rot. Welles II 248). There are many possible places of origin (e.g. Wendover, Bucks., and Wenden Lofts, Essex), but a family of Wendour, and Vendour, including a Richard, had property in Hackthorn, Lincs. (see R.A.L. IV nos. 1154-9, and Danelaw Chs. no. 36).
First occ. as can. 9 Aug. 1229 (Rot. Welles II 231). Last occ. 1 June 1233 (C.Ch.R. I 186). Perhaps to be identified with Richard de Wendene who became bp. of Rochester, el. 26 March 1235, cons. 21 Nov. 1238 (Fasti 1066-1300 II 77). Not to be identified with M. Richard de Wendover, physician of pope Gregory IX (1227-41), preb. of London by Dec. 1237, who d. March 1252 or 1253 (ibid. I 46, 64, 76).
