Richard de Wendene or Wendour

Biography
M. Richard de Wendene or Wendour (fn. 4) For his career, see also Biog. Ox. III 2227, but he was not the rector of Yardley Hastings, for he witnesses, as can., the inst. of a man of the same name (Rot. Welles II 248). There are many possible places of origin (e.g. Wendover, Bucks., and Wenden Lofts, Essex), but a family of Wendour, and Vendour, including a Richard, had property in Hackthorn, Lincs. (see R.A.L. IV nos. 1154-9, and Danelaw Chs. no. 36). First occ. as can. 9 Aug. 1229 (Rot. Welles II 231). Last occ. 1 June 1233 (C.Ch.R. I 186). Perhaps to be identified with Richard de Wendene who became bp. of Rochester, el. 26 March 1235, cons. 21 Nov. 1238 (Fasti 1066-1300 II 77). Not to be identified with M. Richard de Wendover, physician of pope Gregory IX (1227-41), preb. of London by Dec. 1237, who d. March 1252 or 1253 (ibid. I 46, 64, 76).
