Ness was the son of William and was lord of Leuchars. He had one daughter, his heiress, Orabile, who married firstly, Robert de Quincy, secondly, Adam, son of Duncan (I), earl of Fife, and thirdly, Earl Gilchrist of Mar. Ness died between 1178 and 1183.
