Pluscarden Priory

Biography
Pluscarden Abbey, near Elgin (MOR), in the diocese of Moray, was founded as a Valliscaulian priory in 1230 by Alexander II in dedication of St Mary, St John and St Andrew. It was one of three Valliscaulian houses in Scotland but in 1454 became a Benedictine house. It is the only medieval monastery in Scotland which is still served by monks and was raised to an abbey in 1974.
