Ingram Balliol (d.1239×44)

Biography
Ingram (Engelram, Enguerrand) was perhaps the fourth son of Eustace de Hélicourt (d.c.1208), and older brother of Henry Balliol of Cavers, chamberlain of Scotland (d.1246). Both Ingram and Henry were more committed to the Scottish king, Alexander II, than their eldest brother, Hugh (d.1229), lord of Barnard Castle, who stood by Henry III. Ingram was lord of Urr and Dalton in Galloway, and lord of Tours-en-Vimeu in Picardy. He died sometime between 1239 and 1244. He married an unnamed daughter of Walter de Berkeley, lord of Redcastle, form whom he received Urr and Inverkeilor in Angus. They had at least three children together: Eustace (d.ante 1276), who married Agnes, daughter of William Percy (d.1245) with his first wife, Joan de Briwere; Ellen (d.1281) who married said William Percy; and Henry, whose line was later represented by the Fishburn family. From Ellen and William are descended the Percy earls of Northumberland. A. Beam, The Balliol Dynasty, 1210-1364 (Edinburgh, 2008)
