Richard of Coldingham, master (d.1198)

Biography
Watt, Graduates, 105: Master Richard of Coud (Coldingham) was likely the nepos of German, prior of Durham (1162-89) and made a career in the familia of Bishop Hugh le Puiset (1153-95) of Durham and Priors German and Bertram (1189-1212). He first appears in 1167 and often appears in a Scottish context though he was more English than Scottish. He held the churches of Elvet and Bishop Middleham in the Durham diocese. He died in 1198. Richard should be distinguished from a contemporary layman in Scotland who appears 1190×1210 and held lands near Coldingham.
