Biography
Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church: Hugh (aka Ugo de San Caro, Ugo da St-Cher, or with the surname Celidonio, Celidorio, Cheliderio, Sancto Caro, S. Jacobo, Sancto Theodorico, de Sabaudia, or Barchionensis) was born around 1190/1200 at Saint-Cher, France. He was educated at the university of Paris, graduating before 30 November 1225 with a degree in theology and became a doctor of canon and civil law before 1226. He became a Dominican friar in Paris in 1226. He was an ordained priest. In 1231, he was also the director of the Dominican school of St-Jacques, and later prior of the convent of Rue St-Jacques in Paris (from 1233 to 1236). In May 1244, he was created cardinal priest of St Sabina by Pope Innocent IV. He was legate in Germany in 1251 and 1253, and the first cardinal-grand penitentiary from 1256 to 1262. He was bishop of Ostia e Velletri in 1261 but later ceded the see (but not the title). He died on 19 or 24 March 1263 at Orvieto and was buried in the Dominican church there. Later that year, his remains were translated to the Dominican church at Lyon. [http://www.fiu.edu/~mirandas/bios1244.htm#Saintcher]
