Matilda, empress, consort of Heinrich V

Biography
Matilda was the daughter of Henry I, king of England and his first wife, Matilda (d.1118), daughter of Malcolm III of Scotland. She was born probably at Sutton Courtenay around 7 February 1102. In 1109 she was betrothed to Heinrich (Henry) V, king of the Germans (d.1125), and they were married in 1114. She had three sons, Henry II, king of England, Geoffrey of Anjou and William fitz Empress. She died on 10 September 1167 and was buried in the abbey of Bec, Normandy, though her body was reinterred in Rouen Cathedral in 1846. M.
