Document 1/54/35 (RMS, i, App. 1., no. 112)

Description
David, king of Scots, since Malcolm Fleming, knight, his beloved and faithful foster-father (alumnus) and warden of his castle of Dumbarton, providing useful service to the king, acting in his name, by his letters patent from a certain agreement, had promised faithfully to Brother John Carpenter of the Order of Friars Minor, for his handiwork (artificio suo) and labours both inside and outwith his castle, an annual lifetime pension of 20 pounds sterling. The king confirms the said pension from the royal ferme of the burgh of Inverkeithing (FIF) as well as from his great custom. He wills that the grieves of the said burgh and the collectors of his new custom prefer the payment of Brother John's pension.
