Document 1/54/133 (RRS, vi, no. 120)

Description
David, king of Scots, to his officers: since a finding was made in the last chamberlain's circuit held at Montrose (ANG) that the fairs held at Brechin (ANG) and Fordoun (KCD) were prejudicing the king and his burgh of Montrose, the king commands them to make a proclamation forbidding the holding of fairs at Brechin, Fordoun, and anywhere else within the bounds of the burgh of Montrose. They are to confiscate the goods offered for sale contrary to this order, and to attach anyone contravening it to answer in person for their offence. All the king's men are forbidden, on pain of forfeiture, to attend, support, or maintain these fairs in any way.
