Description
David, king of Scots, has given his beloved and faithful William Sinclair all the lands of Mertoun and of Merchiston in the sheriffdom of Edinburgh (MLO), which William Bisset resigned by staff and baton in the presence of venerable fathers in Christ William and Patrick our chancellor, bishops by the grace of God of the churches of St Andrews and Brechin, Thomas Bisset, William Ramsay, and David of Annandale, knights, and other magnates of his kingdom, at Edinburgh on 10 February, 1357 (sic); holding in feu and heritage, with mills and multures, brewhouses and smithies, in fowling, hunting and fishing, as freely as William Bisset held the lands before his resignation, for service owed and wont.
