Document 2/15/3 (ESC, no. 40)

Description
Ralph, archbishop of Canterbury, to Alexander, king of Scotland; thanks him for reception of his dearest son, Eadmer, king's bishop-elect, whom, sent to Alexander by his own request, Alexander has treated honourably, and which Ralph has also received worshipfully on his return to his country. After private speech between Ralph and Alexander, they heard that Eadmer thought of some things differently and that he did not wholly give his assent to everything that they had previously heard. Therefore, it is Ralph's purpose to keep this son beside him until Alexander comes to England; unless by chance before then Alexander announces to him anything else which should be done. After they are able to speak in person and hear both sides, if life and teaching of Eadmer shall be of use to Alexander, he shall return with him; but if something be more pleasing, Ralph shall keep Eadmer with him , he being a man of manifold training in word of God and fitted for every good work.
