Description
David, king of Scots, with counsel, has granted his beloved Scottish burgesses the right to buy and sell freely within the bounds of their liberties, forbidding all others from doing so, unless licenced. He also prohibits any bishop, prior or ecclesiastical person, earl, baron or secular person from buying wool, skins, hides or other merchandise, unless from a burgh merchants within the liberties. Merchandise should be sold at the market and market cross without fraud, and paying the king's custom. He prohibits foreign merchants with ships coming with merchandise from selling to anyone and buying from anyone but the burgh merchants under the king's penalty. He confirms these liberties.
