Description
David, king of Scots, has inspected a charter of Lord Alexander [III], king of Scots, his illustrious predecessor, made to the burgesses of Kinghorn (FIF). [RRS, iv, no. 159; 1/8/152; 26 June 1285 at Largo; grant of a market every Thursday]. King David confirms this, saving his service. He also grants the burgesses and community of Kinghorn, that his free burgesses of Kinghorn may be received in all the burghs of his realm, without any burdens except debts which are owed. He also granted them that wool, pelts and hides and other merchandise may be bought freely within their burgh of Kinghorn and their constabulary; and that they may have their cocket freely, as his other burgesses have it, saving to the king the customary rents of the said burgh.
