Description
David, king of Scots, noting that his lord progenitor [King Robert I] granted at ferme hereditarily by his charter to the late Walter, son of Gilbert, knight, father of David, son of Walter, knight, the barony of Cadzow (LAN), for eighty pounds sterling, 22 chalders of wheat and six chalders of barley, as contained fully in his charter; and noting that he was informed at his council held at Perth on 9 December that the said barony has been reduced and destroyed by war and pestilence so that its fermes and rents of not able to reach these levels, has given with the deliberation of his council, the said barony of Cadzow (LAN) and the land and tenancy of Eddlewood (LAN), with the service of the tenant, with an annual rent of four marks owed the king; holding in feu and heritage, with bondsmen and bondages, neyfs and their offspring, with the freeholders of the said barony and their services, with pit and gallows, sake and soke, toll, team and infangenthef; paying annually 80 pounds at Rutherglen on the feast of the dedication of the church of Glasgow, namely, at the fair of the same, and at the feast of the Purification of the B.V.M., by equal portions. He has relaxed and remitted the aforesaid 22 chalders of wheat and six chalders of barley. He wills and grants that if the said barony is further reduced by war and pestilence, that the chamberlain shall make a proper assignment.n He also grants David and his heirs that his heir should not be held for any repetition of the said ferme, and that in the year of his entrance into the barony, he shall pay ten marks sterling beyond the due ferme, or one palfrey valued at ten marks.
