Description
David, king of Scots, in his council last held at Edinburgh, has inspected a charter of his lord father made to Melrose abbey under his great seal. [King Robert I charter to Melrose of all wardships, reliefs, marriages and profits of justice in the sheriffdom of Roxburgh, until the abbey has £2000. = RRS, v, no. 269; 1/53/310] The king approves, ratifies, and confirms this, ordaining his beloved and faithful Archibald Douglas, knight, in place of the late James, lord of Douglas, chief auditor of the aforementioned receipts and expenses and the executor for distraining. And it is the king's will that all wards, reliefs and marriages, and all the other things named above, should remain in the hands of the said religious men until they shall have fully raised the said £2,000.
