[COLDINGHAM EXTENT CONT.] AUCHENCROW (BWK): The Prior of Coldingham has there two tofts and five oxgangs and five acres of land in demesne through purchase, and it is valued per annum 14s 4d. William of Paxton and Hugh of Paxton held two residences and one ploughgate of land in demesne with a meadow, 13 acres making an oxgang, worth 40s per year. And there is a mill which, if refurbished, would be worth two marks, in the hand of the Prior. There are four husbandmen's tofts, to which belong ten oxgangs, worth 32s., with services. And there are two cottages to which belong 8 acres, worth 4s per year, in the hand of the Prior. FREEMEN: Adam son of Gregory held there from William of Paxton one ploughgate of land rendering to William 4s yearly, and nothing to the Prior; and he died before the war. Now it is worth 20s per year. In the hand of the Prior. FORFEITURES: Roger of Paxton holds one toft and half a ploughgate of land, paying to William of Paxton 1d per year, and nothing to the Prior, and it is worth a half mark per year. It is now forfeited, and in the hand of the Prior. Hugh of Paxton held five tofts and one and a half ploughgates of land there, which he bought from Robert Laverd, and the said land is worth 30s yearly. It is now forfeited, and is in the hand of the Prior. Adam son of Alexander held one toft and two oxgangs of land, paying to Hugh of Paxton one pair of spurs, and now worth 5s yearly. Was at [the king's] peace, and the land is in the hand of the Prior. Adam Bel held one toft and seven acres of land paying to Patrick Scot of Berwick 1d per year, and it is worth 4s, and in the hand of the Prior. Adam son of Nicholas held one toft and two oxgangs of land paying to Patrick Scot 1d per year, and it is worth 5s, and is in the hand of the Prior. Robert of Blackburn held one toft and a half ploughgate of land, paying to Hugh of Paxton 4d yearly, worth 10s, and in the hand of the Prior. John Mawe held from Robert of Blackburn one toft and two oxgangs of land, and worth 10s yearly, and in the hand of the Prior. Edward held of the same Robert one toft and one oxgang of land, worth per year 2s 6d. In the hand of the Prior. Thomas the miller held of the same Robert one toft and one oxgang of land, worth per year 2s 6d. In the hand of the Prior. William son of Roger held of the same Robert one toft and seven acres, worth 2s per year. In the hand of the Prior. William of Wedderburn held one toft and seven acres of the same Robert, worth 2s per annum. In the hand of the Prior. John of Chisholm holds of the Prior in chief one residence and a half ploughgate of land. Sum total 9 pounds 9 shillings because of the land of John of Chisholm and the mill.
