[COLDINGHAM EXTENT CONT.] RENTON (BWK): The Prior of Coldingham has there one residence and one ploughgate of land in demesne, 8 acres making an oxgang, and a ploughgate of land worth 8s yearly. FARMERS: Patrick son of Adam held one toft and one ploughgate of land, which used to pay 22s in rent, because of a large pasture; now it is worth 8s yearly, and is in the hand of the Prior, for a term of seven years. William son of Adam held one toft and six oxgangs of land paying 5s 6d in rent, for seven years. Patrick son of Alexander holds one toft and a half ploughgate and pays 2s 4 and 1/2 d, for seven years. William son of Henry holds one toft and two oxgangs of land paying 2s 5d in rent, for seven years. John son of Patrick holds one toft and five oxgangs paying 2s 4 and 1/2d. for seven years. William son of Adam holds one toft and five oxgangs for the same term, paying 18d. yearly. Patrick son of Henry holds one toft and a half ploughgate of land for the same term, paying 5s 6d in rent. There are five cottages to which belong five acres of land for the same length of time, worth 5s yearly. FORFEITED FREEMEN: Adam son of Adam held two tofts and six oxgangs of land; now it is forfeited and in the hand of the Prior, and worth yearly with pasture 7s. Walter son of Peter holds one toft and two oxgangs and it is worth yearly 2s; in the hand of the Prior; forfeited. Matilda of Ayton holds one toft and two oxgangs and it is worth 2s yearly; forfeited. Margerie and Christiana, sisters, holds one toft and a half ploughgate of land, paying to the Prior 22 and a half pence; they were at peace and are saised. Richard Prat holds one toft, two and a half oxgangs of land worth 2s 6d yearly; in the hand of the prior; forfeited. Patrick Sele holds one toft and a half ploughgate, worth 4s yearly; in the hand of the Prior; forfeited. Matilda daughter of Haldan holds one toft and a half ploughgate of land worth 4s yearly; in the hand of the Prior; forfeited. MILL: And there is a watermill and it is farmed for 18s per year. And there is a separate moor of around 1000 acres, to be eradicated of heather, although it is common pasture for animals. Sum total 4 pounds 7 shillings and one half penny with the mill.
