Description
Robert, deacon, son of Hugh the clerk of Lanark, has given, granted and by his charter established to the chapel of St Nicholas at Lanark, towards the lighting of the chapel, all the ferme of the land which he bought from William, son of Wlphe, namely, 50d. annually which William the butcher holds and possesses of Robert, rendering annually the said money, 25d. at Martinmas and 25d. at Pentecost. Robert wishes that whoever shall be rector of the church of Lanark may receive the ferme after his death or Robert will transfer it to the community during his life; William shall perform all forinsec and secular [service] for the said land, and if William himself should retain the said ferme or be unwilling to return it, the rector shall be able to dispose of the land without any contradiction.
