Document 2/41/1 (Newb. Reg., no. 3)

Description
Simon, chanter of Glasgow, writes to H[erbert], dean, and Elias, canon of Glasgow, that he was present when, by the precept of the lord king, in the presence of his justiciar, it was adjudged by order of the justiciar, that the whole land of Newbattle, except two ploughgates of land which King David had given to Robert, the ironsmith, for his service, would remain with the said house of Newbattle in perpetual alms, and the two ploughgates would remain with Robert Frebern from the gift of King Malcolm. He is a witness to this, and was present when those two ploughgates were measured and perambulated and assigned to the same Robert Frebern in the presence of John [sic for Jocelin], bishop of Glasgow and Alexander, sheriff, and many other good men.
