Description
Dubgall, rector of the church of (Old) Kilpatrick (DNB), makes known that according to the apostolic delegation before the deans of Carrick and Cunningham, and master of the schools of Ayr, in the case called between the abbot and convent of Paisley and himself concerning the lands of ‘Dallevenach’ (DNB) , Cochmanach (Cochno, DNB), Edinbarnet (DNB), ‘Baccan’ , ‘Fimbelach’ (Faifley, DNB), ‘Drumcreve’ (DNB) , ‘Losset’ (?DNB), ‘Craguentalach’ (Craigbanzeoch, DNB), belonging by right to the said church, which as they claimed, Dufgall was labouring to possess hereditarily through certain forged charters and illicitly acquired, against the prosperity and fidelity owed to the church, on account of which case they were petitioning for Dufgall to be removed from the church, and the lands revoked into the rightful ownership of the church; in the presence of the judges, since the same Dufgall did not intend to dispute this – fearing danger toward him to be imminent should he proceed against them – he, demanding sympathy, not judgement, resigned solemnly all the said lands into the hands of the abbot of the monastery, for himself and his convent, granting that from that time that all charters which make mention of his possession of the lands to be invalid. Thus, the abbot, with the counsel of the judges, gave him the sympathy which he desired, renouncing the whole lawsuit called against him and granting to him the church of Kilpatrick, with that half ploughgate of land at ‘Cochmanach’ to be held for his lifetime without disturbance.
