Document 2/94/5 (Glas. Reg., no. 145)
- Description
- Abbot Elias and convent of Holyrood make known that they granted to Walter, bishop of Glasgow, taxation of vicarages of their churches of 'Kircostentyn' (Urr), in Galloway, at 100s. for vicarage in goods of church paid by vicar. The church of Crawford (LAN) similarly estimated at 20 marks for vicarage, assessed at 100s., saving allowance of chaplain. In church of Dalgarnock (DMF), which is generally estimated at 16 marks for same vicarage, assessed at 6 marks, saving allowance of Enoch, clerk. In church of St Brigid of Blaket (Kirkbride in Nithsdale, DMF) which is estimated at 12 marks for same vicarage, assessed at 5 marks. Holyrood Abbey wishes pattern of valuation of said church of 'Kircostentyn' and assessment of vicarage of same to be observed proportionally, saving to them presentation of vicars to other three vicarages. Of said vicarages, they may answer to Holyrood for episcopal dues and ordinary and customary dues; but of the extraordinary and non-customary [dues] together with said vicarages, Holyrood may answer equally for portions of churches.
