Document 2/94/7 (Linc. Reg., iii, no. 840)

Description
Abbot William and convent of Holyrood to dean and chapter of Lincoln; inform them that if they will pay to Master Walter of Shelfanger his yearly pension of 100s. as long as he lives, admitting by their letters, which for convent's security shall remain in their possession, that burden of satisfying him rests upon dean and chapter, abbot and convent shall be ready, in return for 200 marks, to be paid at Newcastle or Durham, to release to them right which convent has in said pension, and deliver any instruments concerning church of [Great] Paxton and pension. The abbot has already written to dean and chapter, although, to his surprise, they seems to intimate that convent should answer to Master Walter during his life. The abbot and convent have no intention of doing this, but intend to receive 200 marks for release of the pension. Endorsed: This came from the parts of Scotland by Colin the courier on 22 February 1285. Be it known that they of Scotland gave Colin 2s. for that turn.
