Document 2/125/4 (Scotia Pontificia, no. 22 )

Description
Pope Innocent II writes to King David I noting the seizure of the church at Durham by William Comyn, the subsequent havoc, and the excommunication of William and his accomplices. Since whoever associates with excommunicates shares their sentence, the pontiff commands the king to avoid William and his accomplices. David is exhorted, for God and for remission of his sins, not to permit the church at Durham to be disturbed by William or by anyone else, and to assist and support them person who is selected (to be bishop), by the brothers of that church.
