Pope Alexander III writes to Abbot Amfrid of Newbattle, noting that no one is permitted to exact teinds from what they improve with their own hands or at their own cost and he has established by apostolic authority and strengthened by the present script the composition made between Newbattle and the church of Haddington (ELO), regarding the teinds from the monastery’s grange at Bearford (ELO).
