Document 2/137/2 (Newb. Reg., no. 256)

Description
Pope Innocent III writes to the abbots and convents of the Cistercian order through the kingdom of Scotland, noting that it was brought before him on their part that they and their order had been indulged by privilege and indulgence that no one may presume to exact or extort, by whatever manner, teinds with regard to food for the order’s animals or others which they have in their own pasture or custody. He directs that sentences of excommunication, suspension or interdict may be promulgated against anyone who attempts to exact teinds from them.
