Document 2/123/6 (Haddan and Stubbs, Councils, ii, I, 205-6)

Description
Pope Calixtus II writes to all the bishops in Scotland reminding them of their reported disregard of his previous letter ordering obedience to Archbishop Thurstan of York. The pope again commands them to obey the archbishop of the church of York as their metropolitan. Bishops-elect should go to him as their metropolitan for consecration, and one bishop should not consecrate another without his permission. A consecration of this sort will be illegal, and subject to canonical penalties.
