Document 2/132/8 (Kel. Lib., no. 466)

Description
Pope Lucius III writes to Abbot Osbert and the monks of Kelso Abbey noting that it is necessary to exhibit special concern for those who pertain directly to the jurisdiction of St Peter and Lucius himself with no intermediary. He thus indulges the liberties and rights of Kelso, wishing particularly to preserve unharmed what has been indulged by the apostolic see, that if any archbishop, bishop, or other prelate of churches promulgates a sentence of excommunication, suspension, or interdict against anyone from Kelso’s community, that sentence has no force.
