Document 2/137/78 (Moray Reg., no. 47)

Description
Pope Innocent III writes to the dean and chapter of Moray, taking the church with its persons and goods into his protection, especially the churches of Auldearn (NAI), Lhanbryde (MOR), Alves (MOR), Rafford (MOR), Kinneddar (MOR), Essle (MOR), St Peter of Strathavon (Inveravon, BNF), Urquhart beyond Inverness (INV), Forres (MOR), ‘Logynfythenach’ (Edinkillie, MOR), Spynie (MOR), Ruthven (ABD) and Dipple (MOR), with all their pertinents, the lands of Ardclach, (NAI), Moy (INV), Culdoich (INV) and all their goods which they possess justly and peaceably. At their petition, it was granted by Brice, bishop of Moray, with the chapter’s assent that a total of eight canons and prebends may be observed firmly in that place, unless the resources of the church should grow to such a degree that there needs to be more.
