Document 2/204/1 (Glas. Reg., no. 176)

Description
Otto, Cardinal Deacon of S. Nicola in Carcere Tulliano, Legate of the Apostolic See, notifies that Ubertello (son) of Guglielmo, merchant of Florence, standing in his presence, for himself and his associates, has acknowledged that he and his associates, have wholly received from the bishop, the dean and the chapter of the church of Glasgow, 1400 marks, in which the said bishop, dean and chapter of Glasgow, because of an agreement made between them and the aforesaid merchants, were obliged to the same merchants; Otto has entirely freed the said bishop, dean and chapter of Glasgow from every obligation contracted between (Ubertello) and his associates, and any representative of the bishop or church of Glasgow, promising that (Ubertello) and his associates will restore to the dean of Glasgow all documents (instrumenta) which they had from the above-mentioned bishop, the dean and chapter; and if by chance a document should be found in the possession of anyone of them by which the said bishop, dean and chapter of Glasgow could be troubled or burdened, let it be entirely void and worthless unless it should obviously appear that the document was made after the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, A.D. 1240.
