Document 2/144/61 (Theiner, no. 201)

Description
Pope Alexander IV, for future reference, makes known that Gamelin, bishop of St Andrews, is to be put in possession of the temporalities of that see, and since the said bishop cannot defend his cause against the king of Scotland unless security be given by the king, the pope orders this to be done, upon which the king’s objections against the said bishop may be heard and evidence received; the sentences of excommunication and interdict issued by the said bishop, and by the judges before whom the cause has already been heard are to be relaxed; if this be not done, Master Godfrid of Alatri, papal chaplain, sent by the pope on this matter, is to relax them.
