Document 2/144/29 (Newb. Reg., no. 254)

Description
Pope Alexander IV writes to the abbots and co-abbots of the Cistercian order, noting that, in their petition to him, some abbots of their order granted lands and possessions pertaining to their monasteries at ferme or for a certain time, sometimes to persons of other professions or to their secular clerics and laymen, requiring little assent of the convents. The pope therefore, by the authority of this present, prohibits this from being done.
