Document 2/147/13 (Dunf. Reg., no. 298)

Description
Pope Gregory X writes to the abbot and convent of Dunfermline, noting how their monastery is burdened by debts to certain creditors who had obtained letters from the apostolic see and its legates. He thus indulges that they may not be compelled to pay debts of this sort, unless their creditors shall prove lawfully the same to have been converted for the advantage of the monastery, nor pay the creditors anything beyond the debt (sortem), unless express mention is made. He also directs that no one may promulgate sentences of excommunication, suspension or interdict against the tenor of this indult.
