Description
Pope Alexander IV writes to the abbot and prior of Lindores, noting the case presented by the abbot and monks of Reading, Salisbury diocese, and commanding them to discover what goods of the priory of May, belonging to the monastery by right, have been illicitly alienated, compelling the opposition by ecclesiastical censure without appeal. If the witnesses named shall have withdrawn out of hatred or fear, they shall compel them by the same censure, without appeal, to provide testimony of the truth.
