Description
[The chancellor of Moray, the treasurer of Dunkeld and Master John of Everley, canon of Dunkeld, recite letters from Pope Innocent [IV], appointing them papal judges-delegate and instructing them to investigate the petition from the abbots of Kelso, Arbroath and Lindores, and the prior of St Andrews, that since the bishop of Aberdeen, of good memory, at the assent and consent of his chapter, had granted certain churches in the diocese of Aberdeen to the priors and convents to hold the right of patronage for their own uses, the [current] bishop had prevented the vicars of the churches from paying their customary dues to the said monasteries.] The abbot and convent of Lindores appearing through their procurators before the judges in the parish church of Banchory-Ternan (KCD), 1250, Thursday after the feast of St Peter ad vincula, by a council of prudent men and skilled judges, the judges have assessed the vicarages and assigned portions to the vicars: the vicarage of Fintray (ABD) assessed at 18 marks, all the altarage of the church, one acre of land next to the mother church towards the manse, also half the garbal teinds of the land of ‘Loginfintre’ (Fintray, ABD) then cultivated, all other lands and teinds belonging to the same church remaining to the abbot and convent of Lindores in perpetuity; the vicarage of Durno (ABD), 21 marks, all the altarage with one acre of land towards the manse next to the church, 3 acres of land pertaining to the chapel of ‘Rossochetis’ (?ABD), the third part of a ploughgate of land which Richard held, all other lands and teinds remaining with the abbey; the vicarage of the church of Insch (ABD) assessed at 20 marks, all the altarage with one acre of land towards the manse next to the church, with the garbal teinds of Drumrossie (ABD), the third part of the garbal teinds of the villa of Insch, all other lands and teinds belonging to the church remaining with the abbey; the vicarage of the church of Radmuriel (ABD), assessed at 12 marks, all the altarage with the manse, two oxgangs of land, the lesser garbal teinds of the villa of Radmuriel from cultivated lands, all other lands and teinds belonging to it remaining in perpetuity with the abbey; the vicarage of the church of Leslie (ABD), assessed at 12 marks, all the altarage with the manse, land of the church with half the garbal teinds of the villa of Henry, son of John, all other things and teinds remaining in perpetuity with the abbey; the vicarage of the church of Premnay (ABD), assessed at 16 marks, all the altarage with one acre of land towards the manse next to the church, the garbal teinds of the same villa then cultivated from the north side of the river which is called Sandy, with the malt-mill of the same villa of Premnay, all other lands and teinds belonging to it remaining in perpetuity with the abbey; the vicarage of the church of Kennethmont (ABD), assessed at 50 marks, one acre of land towards the manse next to the church with the altarage, reserving yearly the teinds of lambs, 30 ‘placable’ lambs of the abbot and convent of Lindores; all other lands and teinds belonging to it remaining in perpetuity with the abbey; the vicarage of the church of Culsalmond (ABD), assessed at 20 marks, all the altarage with a manse next to the church, the land of the mill, one malt-mill in the land of the same, a third part of the garbal teinds of the villa of Norman (ABD), all other lands and teinds belonging to it remaining in perpetuity with the abbey; the vicarage of the church of Inverurie (ABD), assessed at 30 marks, 3 acres, all the altarage with a manse pertaining to the church, the teinds of the lands of ‘Cnokinglas’ (ABD), that is, the lands then cultivated, all other lands and teinds belonging to it remaining in perpetuity with the abbey; all the vicars of the said churches shall sustain all ordinary burdens and shall answer for their portion from the fabric of the chancery of the churches and from extraordinary burdens. This is to be observed, reserving to the judges the power to restrain molesters of the settlement by ecclesiastical censure.
