Document 4/32/65 (St A. Lib., 393-5)

Description
H[enry], prior of St Andrews, Master L[aurence], archdeacon of St Andrews, and R[alph], dean of Fife, recite a papal mandate of Gregory [IX] appointing them papal judges-delegate in the case between the prior and convent of May and the abbot of Scone and others of the diocese of St Andrews concerning certain teinds, fisheries, and other matters. The prior and convent of May claim that although the church of Rhynd (PER), with all teinds of their moveable, immoveable, and other pertinents within the boundaries of the parish of Rhynd, belongs to them by full right, the abbot and convent of Scone are occupying and detaining the teinds of four fisheries, that is, Sleepless Island (PER) and ‘Elpeneslau’ (PER) and ‘Chingil’ (PER) and Inchyra (PER), situated within the parish, in prejudice of the church of Rhynd. It was thus settled that the abbot and convent of Scone, for good peace, shall pay annually in perpetuity 2 marks to the prior and monks of May, half at Pentecost and half at Martinmas; and though this payment of 2 marks, the canons of Scone shall be free and immune from all exaction and legal action of the monks of May. The judges confirm by apostolic authority that this peace shall be observed, by this chirograph made with the seals of the abbot and convent of Scone, the prior and monks of May and of the abbot and convent of Reading.
