Description
An agreement is formed between Paisley Abbey and William, prior of Malton, and William, prior of St Andrew’s, York, procurators for the Order of Sempringham [Gilbertine Order, Sempringham Priory] in Scotland, whereby the priors, on the authority of the master of their order, resign and quitclaim in perpetuity all rights that their order vied for or could vie for, from the gift of the nobleman Walter, son of Alan, steward of the king of Scotland, in lands, fishing and all other rents, without any restraint. The priors wish and conceded that the abbot and convent of Paisley keep all that the noble Walter gave, after their resignation. And for full security, they hand over the letters of their procurators from the master and chapter of the order. They undertake that the master and chapter of their order, within the coming Pentecost, will send his charter to the abbot and convent of Paisley in these words: R[ichard], master of the order of Sempringham, and the chapter, have resigned and quitclaimed all right which they have from the gift of Walter II, son of Alan, steward of Scotland. They wish that they may give over all rights and property to Paisley Abbey after this resignation is bestowed.
