Document 4/20/42 (Lind. Cart., no. 123)

Description
An agreement is formed between the abbot and convent of Lindores and Sir Jocelin de Balliol, whereby the abbot and convent have remitted and quitclaimed in perpetuity to Sir Jocelin all the teinds they were accustomed to receive from his lands in the Garioch (ABD), except garbal teinds, and all other profits and escheats on his lands that he held by gift of his brother Sir John de Balliol and similarly the lands that the Nobleman the Earl of Mar held of Sir John de Balliol at the time when this agreement was made. For which quitclaim and remission, the said Sir Jocelin gave and granted to the abbot and convent in exchange for the said teinds, 8 marks, 6 s. 8d. annually, in free, pure and perpetual alms, from his mill of Inveramsay (ABD) or his land of Balhalgardy (ABD). Moreover, the said Sir Jocelin gave and granted to the abbot and convent, in free and perpetual alms, a water-course from the River Urie to the mill of Insch (ABD), to the east of his castle of Dunnideer (ABD), for a pair of white gloves every year at this castle on Whitsunday.
