Document 4/10/3 (Inchaff. Chrs., no. 64)

Description
An agreement is formed between the abbot and convent of Inchaffray and the master and brethren of the Hospital of SS James and John of Brackeley (Northants) in the dispute concerning the teinds and all other things which the abbey claimed from the land called ‘Petneweue’ belonging to the church of Trinity Gask (PER), and which the hospital possessed of their church of ‘Nesgask’ (later Findo Gask, PER). It was decided that the abbey has quitclaimed to the hospital all rights and claims which the church of Nesgask possessed at the date of the agreement. The hospital has obligated itself to pay yearly to the abbey one mark on the feast of St Martin in hyeme, at ‘Nesgask’, from the teinds of Petneweue. It was also resolved by both parties that if either attempted to resile from the agreement that party should pay to the other party 20 marks as penalty. For greater security, both parties submitted themselves to the jurisdiction of the bishop of Dunblane, who should have full power to compel by ecclesiastical censure the party resiling to pay the said penalty and to observe the agreement.
