- At Peebles, Archibald of Hop-Kailzie, Alexander of Winkston, Richard Fermer, Clement of Hop-Kailzie, Roger of Kidston, Michael of Kidston, Roger Gardener, Archibald of ‘Hundwalucheshope’, Adam of Stobo, Thomas the smith, Richard son of Godard, Gauri Pluchan, William Shepherd, Walter Shepherd, John Modi, Robert Gladhoc, Cokin the smith, Adam Hacsmall, jurors, said that the burgesses of Peebles dug their peats in the moss at Waddenshope (PEB), and that Robert Croke spoiled, cut up and broke the peats and prevented them from being led, and that he seized a horse with heather, and still detains the price of the horse which is 4s., and the price of the heather, which is 1d., as his escheat, saying that it is his escheat because it was plucked in his common. The burgesses asked for the money in pledge from the king’s sergeands and the barons, which they could not receive because he said it was his escheat. The jurors also said that Robert Croke built his hall where the men of the lord king were wont to have their common. The jurors also said that the same Robert ploughed up the common of Peebles.
