Description: Richenda, daughter of Humphrey of Berkeley, notes that in the time of Robert son of Warnebald, formerly her husband, she and Robert, in their great necessity, by their common counsel and consent, gave, granted and by their charter established, and by the charter of the lord king Alexander caused to be confirmed, to Arbroath Abbey, in free, pure and perpetual alms, for providing an allowance for them in their lifetimes, the lands which they had at that time in the parish of Fordoun in the Mearns (KCD), namely two Tippertys, Glenfarquhar, Kinkell, ‘Culbac’ (now Newlands) and Monboddo, whence after the death of the aforesaid R[obert], she, Richenda, in the year 1245, being in the free power of her widowhood, which she caused the aforesaid monks to remember, she has ratified and by her present charter established the said donation, with all its just pertinents, in perpetuity.
